Lou Sarabadzic was born and raised in France. In her twenties, she moved to Ireland, then England, Scotland, and back to England again. Like many people of the Erasmus generation, one of the main reasons for her move at the time was to pursue her studies, but she decided to stay long after her PhD was completed. She is now based near Birmingham. Working in both French and English, Lou is a writer, performer and theatre maker. She has published five books in French, encompassing a variety of genres: fiction, non-fiction and poetry. Her poems have also appeared in various anthologies and journals in English.
Canan Marasligil is a feminist writer, editor, artist, literary translator and curator of cultural programs, whose practice span from performing to making podcasts (most recently: A Dreamer’s Night Talks and Not Loud Enough). She is fluent in English, French, Turkish, Dutch, and Spanish and she is active in the fields of literature, comics, cultural journalism. As an intersectional feminist who strives to challenge dominant narratives, she advocates for representation, equality and diversity. Her work has appeared in various media. At the moment, she’s working on a multimedia project called Beyond Crises, Tenderness, exploring love, mental health, intimacy, sexuality and the possibility of tenderness in times of crisis. José Luis Rico is a writer and translator from Northern Mexico. He has an MFA in creative writing in Spanish from New York University. His first feature-length film as a scriptwriter, Qué tan lejos, was directed by Hiroshi Sunairi and will debut online in the midst of the pandemic. He currently lives in Finland, where he translates drug-traffic-themed ballads into English and is learning the declensions of the word „snow.“

Eszter T. Molnár, writer and biologist was born in 1976. She lived and worked as a scientist in Freiburg, Germany and for a year in Vienna. Since 2014, she publishes poetry, reports, short stories and translations in various literary journals. She writes for children (Hotel Vagabond), young adults (Stand-up!; In earnest; The People’s Land) and also literary fiction (The Numbered; Freefall; Teréz, or the Memory of the Body). She is a member of the Belletrist Association Society – a Hungarian Society of Writers, Critics, and Literary Translators.
Zoltán Lesi lives and writes in Vienna/Austria and Budapest/Hungary. His diploma thesis was a software that analyzes poems. He published three books of poetry: Daphnis ketskéi (Daphnis’ goat) (FISZ, 2009), Merül (Diving) (JAK-Prae, 2014) and Magasugrás (Prae, 2019) and the children’s book Karton és Matild – A zombimentők (Karton and Matild – The zombiesaver) (Móra Publishing House, 2017). His last book (High jump) is also published in German, Hungarian and Slovak. He is also translator and organizer of a literary exchanges between Austrian and Hungarian authors.
Ovid Pop. Languageshifter. Works with texts, sound and video. Writes prose and poetry in German and Romanian. Occasionally essays. Occasionally in English. His texts are translated in French, English, Serbo-Croatian, Romanian, Hungarian and German. He works and lives in Vienna and Bucharest.
Tomás Guadix works mostly with children, with Music and Theater, in Vienna. He has tried to write in Spanish, Portuguese, German and English. Maybe he tries next with Romanian. Or Japanese.
Locations – Writing in Second Languages was conceived as a platform to speak about the conditions of our literary production as second language writers; during the workshop we also created short literary pieces which drew on the topics discussed. The reading offers a glance into the works of the workshop.
